Colonial Steak House in Oakley

We experienced it. Never again. We were there 2 hrs. Choked part of my burger down. Husbands steak was leather. Left hungry. 1 star for Sweet potato fries...they were good.

Omg! You wouldn't know it but they're food is so good. I highly recommend the shrimp and chicken tenders! Best food on the road!

Good place to have a steak and the waitress nice and helpfull.

Waited 35 minutes after we placed our order to be told that they didn't have ingredients to complete. Neighboring table ordered stuff they didn't have. Soda machine not working. Bathrooms dirty. Bad iced tea. No clue how the food is, never got it before we gave up and left.

Good food. Good prices. Service good. Locals frequent this place, which is good sign.

Fish had no taste to it, salad bar was very small, plates are way to small like a saucer size. No soup said it burnt only chili. Had to chase waitress down to even get refills on water, after waiting and waiting.Then the waitress bragging about the night before telling people if ya want just leave.On other hand 1 of the party said the chopped steak was not to bad. The corn fritter were very good just very small amount for price. Been working in Colby thought would drive down and try. Not again

Basic iceberg lettuce small town salad bar which is way better than just more fries! Great soups and chili and homemade pie also delicious! Great service and delicious food. Stop here along the long stretch of crossing Kansas for a treat of real food and not just another burger in a sack.

Used to be good not so much anymore!! Brought me biscuits that were hard !! Waitress said they just baked them yesterday!!!! Wanted $3.79 for 2 lil bitty sausage patties that were burnt!! Maybe they should find a cook!!

Called ahead, yeah we're open and serving food, salad bar, after driving 500 miles and long day I was ready for a sit down meal. Get there 40 mins before closing time, stand inside the restaurant waiting to be some to, brunette waitress looked right at me, and made herself a salad without saying a word. I left. Lots of other choices in Oakley, KS. Not the way I run my business,

The good: Staff was cordial, the restaurant was nicely decorated, and the soup and salad bar tasted fresh and delicious. The bad: service was less than organized, the fried fish overcooked and greasy, and the room smelt moldy. However the Jack Daniels Chicken was unique and tasty.

On a diet, so I was limited on the menu, but the choices looked great. I just stopped by for a salad bar and overall, I had a good experience. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was fine. The only knock I have, and mind you a pretty big one, is 2 out the 4 glasses at my table had lipstick stains on them and the other 2 had water spots and were cloudy. The server was quick to get a clean glass. So in response to the poor dishwashing, and lack of notice by service staff, I give the 3 stars. I would recommend it to any traveler looking for a decent meal, just look over your glassware closely.

This place is awful! We had to wait for the salad bar to be set up until 11:30! We waited 40 minutes for our food and then WHEN it was brought out we were told they were out of chicken fry. They gave us chicken fry sandwich meat without gravy. My hot beef meat looked like jerky smothered in brown jello. We didn’t eat it and we left. I DO NOT recommend this place! We were extremely disappointed!

Just happened to drive through and discovered the place, but this local place has excellent foods and service. The rib eyes steak is amazing. The waitress was busy, serving our big group of 16 with great attitude and smile. We're all very pleased with our meals.

Don't make a joke about getting a drink they don't serve the waitress will storm off and get the manager. To tell you not to make jokes about it. So dam childish for a place next to a truck stop. I do not recommend this place

Servers were friendly, the chicken fried steak was awesome. Order off the menu.

Very disappointing. $11.50 per person for lunch for hardly anything on the buffet. Fried chicken was dry like it'd been there a day or two. Will not go back

This has to be the worst restaurant I have been to. It actually felt like we were watching Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares live. The staff was yelling and cursing at one another. “Forgot” to put our order in. Did not bring forks and knives to the table. When our food came out chicken fried steak and catfish were soggy. It took 10 minutes to get tarter sauce. The food was horrible. At the end waiter had a problem separating our tickets, after yelling and cursing some more with a waitress finally stormed out the door. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I have read some of the reviews and I believe they have this place confused with another down the road.

Was a little apprehensive, as this place appears to be in the middle of nowhere, but was pleasantly surprised. Food was simple but pretty good, not great, and service was moderately fast but friendly. The buffet looked good, but I got the roast beef sandwich, and the wait staff seemed to be not used to some ordering off the menu at lunch time.

For a outpost in the dessert between major cities, this place was good.Service by the two young men who served me was good.Food was fresh. I enjoyed the chili and bison burger. Salad bar was fresh.

Had the pork chops.They have a salad bar and buffet. But the pork chops were worth the 30 min wait. They melt in your mouth. Brown gravy was awesome. It really made the dish.

Along side the highway north of Oakley Kansas about 6 miles just off I-70. Comfortable seating along with slightly above average service. Ordered 2 fillets and chicken fried steak. Fillets were awesome, juicy and prepared perfectly along with sides tasty. All the food was very good. Will recommend this steakhouse and happily return again.

So far prompt service. The food is priced just right and is delicious.Semis are welcome to park there as well so it's very convenient.

nice people food was lacking all the way around the salad bar looked like it had 2 day old lettuce the pasta salad was good I ordered the rib eye steak and was told it was 16 oz. it came out and was more like 10oz the mashed potatoes are gross I'm sure they were instant I wont bother stopping here again I'd give 1 star but the ladies were nice

I’m waited 1,5 hour for mushroom burger. Service is so bad and rude.

Service was great and they didn't mess anything up with my buffalo burger. Quite excellent

Four of us (adults) stopped here for lunch at 11:45 on 6/22/18. They had a buffet for lunch. Very nice salad bar! Full, fresh and lots to choose from. Main buffet items were carrots, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, cream gravy, fried chicken, sliced beef, sausage & sauerkraut, chicken & noodles. All the pans were full, food was hot and they kept refilling as needed. Also had chili and a green pepper soup. Both were delicious. For $10.25 why would you go anywhere else for lunch???!!!! Definitely a great value and very good food here.

Big disappointment. For many years this was the true oasis of the plains. Buffet selections were poor. I asked why there was no chicken. Was told that the cook forgot it was thursday, chicken day? They always had chicken in the past, no matter what day I came in. Beware....

Old school style steak House with a decent salad bar. Not sure why people are complaining about the prices. They are cheaper than eating at a Denny's at a truck stop with better food.

Service is friendly. Buy they don't do they actually job. They chat with each other. Even the cooks.I don't think your suppose to bring food out in the fry basket and dump on buffet or have the green beans in a strainer and dump in water on buffet. The food was cold from buffet chicken was burnt and would refill. Sunday is a busy day you'd think you would be on top of that. I had to refill my drink myself. My kids needed refills and didn't get on til we were leaving. High price for crazy food. It use to be good food. Actual balcony and onion in the green beans not 1/2 still frozen greens beans they had today. 28 dollars for 1 adult buffet and 1 kids buffet plus 2 drinks. I didn't even get enough to eat because it was either cold or burnt. Better food at Pizza Hut. I will not recommend anyone to go here.

Buffet is delicious. Moist crunchy fried chicken, pork loin, meatloaf and pot roast, gravies, mashed potatoes, veggies, desserts and salad bar. Great price. Reception and staff friendly and very efficient

Service was slow. Salad bar was old and lettuce was brown. Tomatoes were wilted. Ordered fried chicken. Asked for breast and 2 thighs. Got thigh, leg and wing. Bit in thigh and majorly undercooked. Cut open leg and wing, same thing. Went to buffet to get 2 other pieces. Thigh undercooked. Finally breast was fine. Catfish was okay, just a bit greasy. No condiments and still haven't seen server as I write this. On bright note, the baked potato was best thing on plate. I finally flagged a server down and showed the under cooked chicken. The did take my meal off the check at checkout.

My husband use to eat here when he was an over the road truck driver..He suggested on stopping here. The fried chicken still had blood in it, the cowboy neans were not done (hard) sweet and sour meatballs were to sweet and the mashed potatoes were dry. We are not picky eaters...but this was the worst meal I think I have ever had. Not recommended...waitress was toooooo slow

Ordered Hot roast beef sandwiches with gravy . After 30 minutes watched the cook go to buffet for the potatoes and gravy. RB was dry and odd bits that looked like they were left over pieces that fell off while cutting the beef... yesterday. ( but the good bits!) granddaughters Mac & cheese was cold.... not just not hot, but cold! Hash browns were floating in a puddle of grease. 1 waitress doing everything, there was a manager there telling her and others what they had to do, but offered no help as this girl ran her butt off. Wasted an hour, could have been 75 miles away! If we get sick tonight I’ll know why.

I got a free breakfast coupon with my stay at the Free Breakfast Inn and was looking forward to the several options offered. Sadly, I didn't read it before I got ready for the morning and missed the time specified on the coupon. I was fine with that as it was my fault for not paying closer attention, but my server offered to honor the coupon anyway! I was so happy as I hate to waste a coupon! I got refills and everything I needed without even asking. Staff was excellent as was my breakfast! Also definitely try the hand spun homemade butter it's delicious! Definitely recommend.

Salad bar was great. I ordered an open face roast beef with masked potatoes and gravy. Gravy was from a mix, beef reheated and burnt, and I thought they lost the lid to the salt shaker! My husband's fried chicken was very good, and also very salty.

My sister and I had a fantastic lunch experience today! We’d been driving since Pueblo, CO with no restaurants for 3 hours. Needless to say, we were thrilled to see this wonderfully remote steakhouse open and in action! We were greeted immediately by two friendly and enthusiastic waitresses. They both suggested the chicken fried steak and since my sister and I still had several hours left of our drive for the day, decided to share it so we weren’t too stuffed. Well let me just say holy buckets! It was the most generous chicken fried steak I have ever witnessed in my life! And even better... homemade and delicious, too! A big win! Absolutely loved it! It’s a casual dining experience and down to earth feel, receive it for what it is and enjoy a home cookin meal 😁

Horrible service, bathrooms were void of toilet paper and paper towels. Staff was arguing amongst other staff members. We ordered BLT’s and fries, waited over 40 minutes for our food (the place only had 3 tables occupied). The sandwiches were horrible, undercooked bacon and the waitress spilled my fries on my lap when she finally brought the plate. Do not waste your time and money...

If I could give a negative star I would. Frist steak under cooked second steak had to be Thawed before cooking. When I got it 1.5 hours later it was tough from being thawed and tasted like liver yuck . I can say the soup was the best part. Paid 16.99 for a bowl of soup. No one offered a discount. DO NOT STOP HERE! Think my shoe would have had better taste.

Food was good. They needed better trained help. Everyone was friendly.

This place is an absolute disgrace. They need to shut it down until they find a decent manager who can direct a staff properly instead of sitting down with a customer and yelling across the room. It used to be an amazing place to eat before she took over!
